Lloyds tour called off

Bermuda Cricket Board are looking for alternative fixtures after it emerged this week that Lloyds Cricket Club had cancelled their tour to the Island in July.

Coach Gus Logie was planning to use the three scheduled games to have a look at anybody interested in playing for the national team this year, but it is understood that Lloyds have informed the BCB they will not be travelling because of a lack of funds.

It is also understood that as a result of Lloyds’ cancellation, the governing body are now actively looking for other games overseas, though no more details were made available yesterday.

Without the Lloyds tour, the first official games for the national team will not be until August when the squad travel to Ireland and Holland for a series of One-Day Internationals and Intercontinental Cup matches.

By that time the team will have been out of action for close to five months when they arrive in Ireland if no other fixtures are arranged.

Top Associate sides like Ireland and Scotland have already begun playing again in the Friends Provident Trophy — one of the UK’s premier limited overs competitions involving all the county sides.

The Irish Cricket Union have also confirmed that their national side will play ODIs against both South Africa and India this coming June in Belfast.
