Somerset have point to prove

in the Premier League when they host neighbours Willow Cuts in the top cricket match of the day tomorrow.

The west enders, who won the league in the early 1980s, have maximum points from two matches and will be gunning for win number three against a Cuts side still smiling after a convincing 61-run win over Bailey's Bay last weekend.

Cuts share Somerset's ground and both teams have players who played for the other team, but that will only add to the derby atmosphere as more than pride is at stake.

Somerset have had sterling performances so far from allrounders Wendell White and Leon Place, though this is more than a two-man team.

Unbeaten Cuts showed former batsman Jermaine Warner that they are still solid in that department by posting 284-3 against Warner's new team, Bailey's Bay, as captain Dexter Basden led by example with 119 not out.

Three other teams with maximum points from two matches will be looking for win number three. St. David's, leaders on net run rate, entertain winless PHC as James Pace goes up against his former team.

Both sides were involved in close matches last Sunday, with St. David's edging out Flatts by 22 runs in a high-scoring match at Devonshire Rec., and PHC only losing by one wicket to Somerset at Sea Breeze Oval.

Police managed to beat Social Club despite fielding only nine players, but with several key players in Barbados for the Test match, they will be hard-pressed against unpredictable Flatts who were led last weekend by Phillip Burgess' 127 in a losing cause.

Western Stars travel to Southampton Oval to meet Warwick in their final match before the Camel Cup semi-final next weekend against Bailey's Bay.

St. George's will look to bounce back from their loss to Stars with a good performance against Devonshire Rec. at the Rec. while the other matches see Cleveland playing Social Club at Wellington Oval, and Bailey's Bay entertaining Somerset Bridge at Sea Breeze Oval.
